This abstract introduces CBASleepNet, a deep neural network model designed for automatic sleep stage classification and subsequent assessment of consciousness levels in patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC). The model employs convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for EEG/EOG feature extraction and bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) with attention for sequential sleep analysis. The resulting sleep staging data is then used to derive consciousness-related features, which a support vector machine (SVM) classifier utilizes to distinguish between minimally conscious state (MCS) and vegetative state (VS)/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS) patients. Demonstrating superior performance in sleep staging and achieving an 81.8% accuracy in consciousness assessment, CBASleepNet presents a valuable and effective tool for clinical evaluation in this challenging domain.
